Sub-Theme Keynote Speaker: AI in Communication, Journalism, and Media
Professor Nancy Booker, Associate Professor and Dean at the Graduate School of Media and Communications, will address the theme "AI in Communication, Journalism, and Media." Her talk will explore how AI is reshaping the media landscape, including advancements in data-driven storytelling, automated news production, audience sentiment analysis, and ethical considerations in media practices.
With over 20 years of experience in academia and media, Professor Booker specializes in broadcast journalism, multimedia storytelling, media management, and health communication. Trained in leadership at Harvard, she has also held positions at Multimedia University of Kenya, Daystar University, and ABC University in Liberia, where she established the Media and Communication Department.
Her media career includes roles at KBC and NTV, and she regularly appears as a commentator on local TV. Professor Booker serves on Kenya’s Media Complaints Commission, is a juror for the Journalism Excellence Awards, and is a founding board member of the East African Communication Association. She has contributed through consultancies and research with organizations like the Open Society, UNDP, and Thomson Foundation. Additionally, she is a trustee for Amani Ya Juu – Kenya, supporting peace and reconciliation for African women.
